As gardens begin to grow and canning season approaches, now is the perfect time to make sure your pressure canner is ready for safe food preservation. Ohio State University Extension is offering Pressure Gauge Testing services throughout the year to support both new and experienced home canners in the community.
Pressure gauge testing is an important part of safe home canning. An accurate gauge helps ensure foods are processed at the proper pressure, reducing the risk of foodborne illness and helping families preserve food safely and confidently.
This affordable service is available to the general public for just $5.00 per gauge. Residents may bring either:
- Their pressure canner lid with the gauge attached, or
- The gauge itself
Community members are welcome to attend one of OSU Extension’s scheduled testing dates or contact the office to arrange an appointment at another convenient time during the year.
One upcoming testing opportunity will be held:
- June 3
- 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Columbiana County Fairgrounds
Whether you are preparing for your first season of home canning or have years of experience preserving family recipes, OSU Extension encourages residents to take advantage of this quick and valuable service.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled testing date, contact Heidi Buck to schedule a time to stop by the office for gauge testing.
