Honoring Head, Heart, Hands, and Health in Action: Since 2022, the Columbiana County 4-H Recognition Banquet FLYER has proudly included a special tradition to spotlight outstanding youth — the "H" Awards. These awards are inspired by the beloved H Award Ceremony at Camp Whitewood and are designed to honor 4-H youth who exemplify the values represented in each “H” of the 4-H Pledge: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. Each award celebrates how youth live out the 4-H pledge in meaningful ways. These young people are thinkers, leaders, helpers, and role models — and we need your help to recognize them!

Head H Award: Clearer Thinking

“I pledge my head to clearer thinking…”

This award honors a 4-H member who demonstrates logical, accurate thinking and is eager to learn. These youth are well-informed, make thoughtful decisions, ask questions, and often advocate for positive change.

Examples of Head H Activities:

  • Holding a club officer position

  • Participating in Junior Leaders

  • Attending leadership opportunities at the county, state, or national level

  • Completing in-depth project work and applying new knowledge

Heart H Award: Greater Loyalty

“I pledge my heart to greater loyalty…”

The Heart Award goes to a youth who shows loyalty and compassion — to their club, their community, and their passions. These individuals build meaningful relationships and understand the lasting impact of 4-H.

Examples of Heart H Activities:

  • Mentoring younger or new members

  • Leading or participating in community service projects

  • Demonstrating kindness and dedication to others

  • Sharing their spark and enthusiasm for 4-H

Hands H Award: Larger Service

“I pledge my hands to larger service…”

This award celebrates service and helping hands. Youth who earn the Hands H Award are always stepping up to help, offering their talents, and leading with action.

Examples of Hands H Activities:

  • Organizing donation drives

  • Planting trees or creating pollinator gardens

  • Leading clean-up efforts in their communities

  • Volunteering to help others in need

Health H Award: Better Living

“I pledge my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world…”

The Health H Award recognizes youth who prioritize wellness — not only for themselves, but for others. These youth promote positive mindsets, healthy relationships, and active lifestyles.
