With limited livestock mortality handling options, composting has become a viable and relevant method for many cattle, hog, small ruminant, and poultry producers. In Ohio, completion of a mortality composting certification class is required before implementing the practice on-farm.

Done correctly, mortality composting creates nutrient dense organic matter while protecting both water and environmental quality.
